The RRB Group D Syllabus 2024 is designed to assess candidates on their general intelligence, reasoning ability, mathematics, and awareness of current affairs to ensure they are fit for various Group D roles in Indian Railways. The exam is conducted in multiple phases, beginning with the Computer-Based Test (CBT), which serves as the primary screening stage. The CBT consists of four key sections: Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness and Current Affairs. Each section carries equal importance, RRB Group D Syllabus and the total number of questions is 100, to be solved within 90 minutes. For candidates eligible for scribe assistance, an extra 30 minutes is provided.

The Mathematics section includes topics such as number systems, BODMAS, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentages, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, algebra, geometry, and statistics. This section is designed to evaluate a candidate’s numerical ability and problem-solving skills, which are essential for daily tasks in railway operations.
The General Intelligence and Reasoning section tests logical thinking and decision-making abilities. Topics include analogies, coding and decoding, syllogism, puzzles, blood relations, Venn diagrams, data sufficiency, classification, direction sense, conclusions and decision making, alphanumeric series, and mathematical operations. This section plays a crucial role in determining how quickly and accurately a candidate can process and interpret information.
The General Science segment focuses on the basics of Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences, usually from the 10th standard level of CBSE syllabus. Questions may involve everyday science concepts, such as laws of motion, electricity, the structure of atoms, classification of organisms, human anatomy, and natural phenomena. This section is intended to assess the candidate’s general understanding of scientific principles that may relate to technical roles in the railway sector.
The General Awareness and Current Affairs section covers topics like Indian history, geography, polity, economics, sports, important government schemes, awards and honors, books and authors, and recent developments on the national and international fronts. Staying updated with current events is essential, as it helps assess a candidate’s situational awareness and understanding of their socio-political environment.
Negative marking is applicable in the CBT, where 1/3 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. Hence, accuracy is as important as speed. Those who qualify the CBT are shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), followed by document verification and medical examination. The PET standards differ for male and female candidates and test physical strength and endurance—crucial for various duties in Group D posts.
Overall, the RRB Group D Syllabus 2024 is structured to select candidates who are not only academically prepared but also physically fit and aware of current developments. Success in the exam requires consistent practice, conceptual clarity, and time management. Aspirants should follow the official syllabus released by RRB and practice previous years’ question papers and mock tests to enhance their performance and boost their chances of selection.
