Matexcel, a materials science company specializing in advanced analytical and testing services, has announced the launch of its new microplastic analysis service. The offering enhances the company’s existing portfolio of materials analysis solutions and responds to the growing global demand for accurate and comprehensive microplastic detection.
Microplastics, defined as plastic particles smaller than 5 millimeters, have become a major environmental concern due to their widespread presence in water, soil, air, and food sources. Their persistence and potential impact on ecosystems and human health have increased the need for precise analytical tools.
Matexcel’s newly launched microplastic analysis service is designed to provide reliable identification, quantification, and characterization of microplastic contaminants across a range of sample types. The service supports applications in environmental research, regulatory compliance, product safety assessments, and industrial quality control.
The analytical workflow includes a suite of advanced technologies:
- FTIR Spectroscopy and FTIR Microscopy – For fast and accurate polymer identification, including small-sized particles.
- Pyrolysis-Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (Py-GCMS) – For detailed chemical analysis of complex plastic mixtures, coatings, and additives.
- Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) – To determine the elemental composition and surface-bound contaminants.
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) – For assessing thermal properties and polymer content in mixed samples.
- Dynamic Particle Image Analysis – To evaluate particle size distribution and morphology in aqueous samples.
These methodologies allow Matexcel to offer both qualitative and quantitative data on microplastic samples, including polymer type, concentration, surface contaminants, and particle shape.
“The launch of our microplastic analysis platform is part of our ongoing effort to support science-based environmental monitoring and material safety assessments,” said Johnson, a representative speaker from Matexcel. “By integrating multiple analytical techniques, we aim to provide a comprehensive and efficient solution to researchers and industry clients worldwide.”
Matexcel’s microplastic analysis service is now available to academic, and industrial partners. It joins the company’s broader suite of material analysis services, which include chemical composition testing, mechanical performance evaluation, surface characterization, and more.
