Hey there, fellow wildlife lovers!
If you’re planning a trip to Bandhavgarh National Park, you’re in for an unforgettable jungle adventure. I recently explored Bandhavgarh and went on safaris through different gates. Trust me, each safari zone has its own charm, and if you know what to expect, your experience gets even better.
Bandhavgarh Gate-wise Safari Zones
Let me break down the Bandhavgarh gate safari zones and share what I personally saw, felt, and learned—so you can make the most of your visit.
1. Tala Zone – The Heart of Bandhavgarh
This is the most famous and core zone of Bandhavgarh. When someone talks about tiger sightings, chances are, they’re talking about Tala. It’s also the oldest zone.
What to Expect:
- High chance of spotting tigers – This zone is known for big cats.
- Beautiful landscapes with thick sal forests, meadows, and old ruins.
- You can even spot the Bandhavgarh Fort ruins in the background.
My Experience:
I entered through the Tala gate early morning. Within an hour, our jeep stopped—we saw a tigress walking down the trail, calm and royal. It was magical! Plus, we saw deer, langurs, and a few peacocks dancing.
Suggestion: Book your Tala safari in advance. It gets full quickly because it’s the most demanded zone.
2. Magadhi Zone – Tiger Lover’s Paradise
Magadhi is another core zone, and it’s becoming more and more popular. Some say it’s even better than Tala now for tiger sightings.
What to Expect:
- Good number of tigers, including cubs if you’re lucky.
- Open grasslands – perfect for spotting wildlife from far.
- Peaceful trails and fewer crowds compared to Tala.
My Experience:
I did an afternoon safari here. It was hot, but worth it. Our guide tracked fresh pugmarks and led us straight to a male tiger resting under a tree. Later, we spotted wild boars and spotted deer drinking from a waterhole.
Suggestion: Keep your camera ready in open patches—tigers love crossing them in the evening.
3. Khitauli Zone – Calm and Scenic
Khitauli zone is less crowded and has its own relaxed feel. It’s a great place for nature lovers.
What to Expect:
- Leopards and sloth bears – chances are lower but possible.
- Lots of birds and herbivores like deer and antelope.
- Peaceful drive with beautiful trees and quiet surroundings.
My Experience:
Honestly, I didn’t see a tiger here, but I loved the vibe. We saw a group of Indian gaurs and a huge herd of deer. Plus, the silence of the forest was soul-soothing.
Suggestion: Don’t skip Khitauli if you enjoy birdwatching or want a calm safari.
4. Dhamokhar Zone – New and Wild
Dhamokhar is one of the new buffer zones, but don’t ignore it. It surprised me!
What to Expect:
- Lesser-known, so less rush.
- Wild, raw forest feel – not very touristy.
- Chances of tiger, leopard, and sloth bear sightings.
My Experience:
This was a wildlife adventure! The terrain was hilly and different. We saw fresh scratch marks on trees and pugmarks again. Though we didn’t see a big cat, we heard warning calls and saw a jackal running across.
Suggestion: Go here if you want an offbeat safari experience.
5. Panpatha Zone – Buffer Beauty
Panpatha is also a buffer zone. It connects to the forest range and offers a different taste of Bandhavgarh.
What to Expect:
- Good for first-timers or second safari of the day.
- Less chance of tiger, but nature is beautiful.
- Great for photography and spotting smaller animals.
My Experience:
Panpatha felt like a peaceful drive through the forest. No tigers, but lots of deer, monkeys, and colorful birds. I enjoyed it without any expectations.
Suggestion: Try this zone if other zones are full or you want a relaxed ride.
